Aston Martin DBS

Aston Martin have revealed that the Astin Martin DBS, which first appeared in Daniel Craig's first James Bond movie, Casino Royale, is going to be made as a production car. It was publicly unveiled last weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, near Carmel, California, but will not go on sale until early next year.

Daniel Craig drove a concept version of the Aston Martin DBS 16 months ago in Casino Royale, where he crashed the DBS in a spectacular scene while trying to avoid the lifeless body of Vesper laying in the middle of the road.

The production version of the Aston Martin DBS will be driven by a 6 litre V12 engine producing 510 horsepower, 380kW and a massive 420Nm of torque. The DBS will be slightly lighter than the DB9, weighing in at 3737kg. It will be the fastest accelerating Aston Martin ever, only needing 4.3 seconds to get from 0 to 100kmh. The DBS will have a top speed of 305kmh. To keep the DBS on the road will be 4 extra-wide Pirelli tyres which will be kept in check by using carbon/ceramic brakes.

Aston Martin's chief executive, Ulrich Bez said when unveiling the concept version at the Geneva Car Show last year: "It is not of the understated elegance of a DB9, nor the youthful agility of the V8 Vantage. It is explosive power in a black tie and has its own unique character which will equal that of James Bond."

Fastest Ever Porsche 911

Porsche will release their fastest ever Porsche 911 sports coupe in November this year. The revamped Porsche 911 GT2, will have a price tag of £108,000 (159,000€ / US$219,300).

The Porsche sports coupe will race from 0-100km per hour in only 3.7 seconds! And its 530 horsepower engine will allow the car to reach an insane top speed of 329kph (204 miles per hour). This is faster than the normally aspirated GT3 or the base version of the Porsche 911 Turbo.


The new Porsche 911 GT2 will come equipped with carbon ceramic brake disks and weight saving titanium tailpipes as well as a more efficient intake manifold. Porsche said the new rear engined GT2 consumes on average 12.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

Brushing up on its green credentials amid criticism its powerful sports cars are heavy polluters, Porsche said the new GT2 "offers a level of fuel economy regarded as quite impossible in this performance class just a few years ago".

"With the new GT2, the (current generation) 911 model line is now complete," a spokesman said, referring to the present incarnation of the long-running 911 series, dubbed the 997.

The 911 GT2 is equipped with a six cylinder, 3.6 liter petrol Boxer engine based on the one used in the 911 Turbo, aspirated with two turbochargers employing its variable turbine geometry that can operate at exhaust temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees Celsius.

2008 Shelby Mustang GT500KR - The Most Powerful Mustang Ever

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR, Shelby Automobiles and Ford will unveil the Shelby GT500KR 2008, at the upcoming 2007 New York International Auto Show. The Shelby Cobra GT500KR is the most powerful production Ford Mustang ever made, having 40 more horsepower than it's predecessor.

The original 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR was based on the 1968 Shelby GT500. The 'Cobra' was added by Ford to help initiate the beginning of the new performance era. Cobra refers to the 428 Cobra Jet V8, the engine which vaulted Mustang to the head of the pack.

The Shelby Mustang GT500KR will be produced in an exclusive run of 1000 cars and will start appearing in Ford dealerships late in 2008. Robert Parker, manager of the Ford car brand says "The return of the Shelby GT500KR further establishes Mustang as the true king of the pony car segment".

Porsches VW Bid

Porsche will become Europe's largest car and truck manufacturer tomorrow when its holdings in Volkswagen are taken to 30.9%. Porsche have exercised an option to take an extra 3.6% stake in VW, which will raise its total stake above 30% and trigger a mandatory take over offer.

Porsche plans to launch a £24 billion offer, £67.81 per share. Volkswagen sells 60 times more cars than Porsche and has sales of £68 billion against Porsche's £4 billion. Porsche said that it was not seeking a majority of Volkswagen shares but few doubt that is its ultimate objective.

Porsche's investment in Volkswagen now totals about £3.4 billion but gives it control over an empire ranging from Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat to luxury brands such as Lamborghini, Bugatti and Bentley.

Porsche's takeover will also give them a say over the creation of what could be Europe's largest truck manufacturer, as VW is the biggest share holder in both Sweden's Scania and Germany's MAN.

Ferdinand Piech, who is a controlling share holder in Porsche and Volkswagen's supervisory board chairman, is also the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, who created the Volkswagen Beetle and founded Porsche.
